Your teen does the work. You approve every job.
Workers can join at 14. Until they turn 18, every job goes through a verified parent or guardian first. No exceptions and no shortcuts.
How it works
Your teen invites you
They sign up and send an invite to your phone. The link lasts 7 days.
You verify your ID
A two-minute ID and selfie check through Stripe, then you set up the payout account where your teen's earnings will land. It's free.
You set the hours
Pick the days and times your teen can work. The default is weekends, and weekdays after 3 pm. They won't see or be able to check in to jobs outside those hours.
You approve each job
When your teen taps Accept or sends a bid, it comes to you first. Nothing is sent to the homeowner until you approve.
What you see before you approve
- The job type, what's involved and the yard map with every hazard marked
- What your teen would be paid
- The day and time they proposed, and how far it is from home
- What equipment is needed and who brings it
- The homeowner's Background checked badge, star rating and reliability
If your teen changes their price or time, that's a new approval. If you decline, you can tell them why.
Every homeowner your teen can work for has passed an ID check and a background check, and every job address has been checked against the sex offender registry.
You stay in control
See everything
Every job, bid, payout, review and work zone on your teen's account, in a guardian tab of your own.
Pause any time
Pause your teen's worker profile with one tap. Only you or YardHound can end the guardian link. Your teen can't swap guardians on their own.
Payouts come to you
Earnings go to your Stripe payout account, not your teen's. You decide how they get it.
Age-appropriate jobs
Job types are limited by age, so younger teens only see work suited to them. Equipment-heavy jobs open up at 16 or 18.
Home stays private
Your teen picks the areas they'll travel to from a base address. That address is never shown to anyone.
One guardian, many kids
One verified guardian account can link to several teens, each with their own hours and approvals.
When your teen turns 18
Thirty days before their 18th birthday, you both get a notice. On the birthday the guardian link ends on its own. To keep working, they verify their own ID, pass the adult background check and set up their own payout account. Jobs already accepted finish under the old link and pay you. Money already in your account stays there.
Good to know
- Teens pay no verification fee and aren't background-checked. You're verified instead.
- Workers are independent, not YardHound employees. Earnings count as self-employment income. Ask a tax professional if you're unsure what applies to your family.
- A worker can stop any job, for any reason, with one button. Teach your teen that a job that feels wrong is a job to stop.
